According to Daniel T. Lackland, professor of epidemiology and medicine at the University of South Carolina in Charleston, ‘it has been shown that middle-aged and older men stand a higher risk of developing erectile dysfunction, and the propensity of losing control over the blood pressure was higher in this group of men.
Adding to that, Lackland said that the studies achieved the aim of showing the importance for men with erectile dysfunction to check their blood pressure so that it could be controlled. Treating only the erectile dysfunction, according to the studies, could also improve aortic stiffness.
Greek researchers at the American Society of Hypertension's 20th Annual Scientific Meeting and Exposition, in reporting their findings, were able to show that Viagra tablets online reduce the stiffness of blood vessels – a risk factor for heart diseases – when used to treat impotent men who have high blood pressure.
Statistics have shown that about 65 million American citizens have high blood pressure, a risk factor for heart disease, kidney disease and stroke. Also, about 20 million men in America are believed to have some degrees of erectile dysfunction.
Are Blood Pressure and Erectile Dysfunction connected?
Greek researchers opined that not only are blood pressure and ED related, but the risk of ED for hypertensive men is more than twice as high for men who have normal blood pressure.
Michael Doumas – from the fourth department of internal medicine at the University of Athens in Greece – said that their research showed that hypertensive men have a greater chance of being at risk for or having erectile dysfunction.
The research involved 358 hypertensive men between the ages of 31 and 65.e involved in the study. The men, after being asked to complete a questionnaire that evaluated erectile dysfunction, were compared with another group of men without high blood pressure by the researchers, according to the International Index of Erectile Function.
